& Shears - 2
Culture: Late medieval
Country/Area of Origin: Blackfriars, London.
Notes: Scissors are complete and intact. Central pivoting
rivet is present although the blades do not move. Both loops are
a similar size. Dating to 16th or 17th century, although the blade
shape suggests the late 16th century is likely. Provenance: Old
Mudlark Collection. Found River Thames, Blackfriars, London in the
1970s. Currently uncleaned.
Culture: Early medieval
Country/Area of Origin: Kiev, West Ukraine
Notes: Hand forged iron shears with large slightly concave
blades are complete with markings on the blades where corrosion
has occurred. The central rivet is present and allows the blades
to move freely. One loop is larger than the other, suggesting use
for the four fingers. Found during excavations in the west of Ukraine.
These shears are the period of Kievan Rus.
